Hello everyone! For this week’s blog, I thought I would let everyone know about all the happenings of last weekend – which was the first weekend of the Lake George Winter Carnival.
Sometimes the stars do line up just right — and that’s just what happened for the opening of the Lake George Winter Carnival. First off, it’s been really cold since December and that means plenty of ice for all the festivities — being a lot of events are held on the ice, this is pretty darn important! Secondly, the weather was really great — Saturday was a little cloudy but fairly warm and on Sunday it was even better with temperatures in the upper 40’s and lots of sun. You just can’t have better weather in the Adirondacks in February than that!
There is one nice thing as a business owner in Lake George about the winter carnival (besides the crowds) — we finally get to see all the other business owners who have become our summer friends. In the summer, almost all business owners work 12, 14, 16 hours a day and with so many new faces coming into town every day to see the “Queen of American Lakes”, it’s nice to see some of the same faces. It sort of becomes a community within the community, not to mention it’s been 4 months since I have had coffee at “Somewhere in Time” (our neighbor) and I haven’t seen Carmella (the owner) since October. It’s kinda like summer again — at least on the weekends in February.
One other thing I would like to mention is that our little community has a new member, next door to us, Ali Babba’s (hopefully I spelled that right) Mediterranean Restaurant opened it’s doors last weekend for the first time. I will be the first to say that I am not all that familiar with this type of cuisine, but I had lunch there on Sunday and it was pretty darn good. I had a gyro with Meat of Doner and cucumber yogurt sauce and I really liked it, which according to my wife, that alone makes it special. And for anyone like me who doesn’t know what Meat of Doner is — it’s beef.
This weekend not only contains Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day, but it is also a weekend chock full of Winter Carnival events. One of them is our free tasting event on Saturday, Valentine’s Day — “FREE Couples Wine Tasting for Wine Lovers and Learners” — stop in to the winery between 11am and 5pm to taste our wines for free, try some champagne, sample chocolates, fine foods, and more! Just a reminder that the winter carnival continues through the end of February! Here’s the link to their website.
I will post another blog soon with my “State of the Winery Address” where I will let everyone know how our production is going, new wines we will be offering this year, and some of the other winery happenings. Until then please drink responsibly and have a great day!!!!
