Six Flags Great Escape Debuts Exclusive Line of Locally-Made, Private Label Wines

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. — December 15, 2011 — Just in time for the Holiday Season, Six Flags Great Escape Lodge is pleased to announce it has launched its own line of private-label wines produced by Lake George-based Adirondack Winery. The new line of wines, which will be sold exclusively at The Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Water Park, include Log Cabin Chardonnay, Rustic Merlot, Lodge Red (Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon), Blushing Escape (White Zinfandel) and Adirondack Strawsling (Strawberry Riesling) and are all from Warren County’s only winery.

Eric Gilbert, General Manager of The Lodge commented, “We are proud to show our support of locally-made products with the debut of this exclusive line of wines created for us by Adirondack Winery. We are confident that our guests will not only be pleased with the variety and uniqueness of these wines, but also their unequivocal quality.”

“We are so pleased that The Great Escape Lodge has shown their support of hard-working local small business by choosing us as the producer of their line of house wines. We’ve been working on this venture together for quite a while and the Great Escape Lodge staff has been a pleasure to work with,” said Michael Pardy, Adirondack Winery’s CEO and Wine-Maker.

“The American public is increasingly recognizing the importance of supporting local business and buying locally-made products and it’s great to see that one of the area’s largest companies, The Great Escape Lodge, is on board with this movement,” said Sasha Pardy, Adirondack Winery Co-Owner, President and designer of the wine label.

Another supporter of our  local business that we make a line of private-label wines for is the Lake George Steamboat Company. You can find the Adirondack Winery’s “Steamboat Sangiovese,” “Blushing Minne,” and “Mohican Pinot Grigio” when you hop aboard Lake George’s famous steamboats (the Minne Ha-Ha, Mohican, or Saint Sacrament). These private-label wines are also available at The Boardwalk Restaurant.

Serene White (Kiwi Melon Pinot Grigio)

Serene White (Kiwi Melon Pinot Grigio)

First off is our newest fruity wine: Serene White, which is a Kiwi Melon Pinot Grigio. I think everyone is going to really love this wine, especially all the fans of our Strawsling.

Here are the tasting notes for this wine: “This light bodied white wine captures the mouth watering flavors of freshly cut honeydew melon and juicy watermelon. Perfectly balanced with tones of tart kiwi fruit, this easy drinking wine boasts a deliciously fresh fruity finish. Pairing suggestions fish or chicken,
mild cheeses, creamy desserts and ice cream.”

The photograph on the label was taken by my wife, Sasha, aboard the Lac du Saint Sacrament, and features the gorgeous blue hues of Lake George on a clear July day.

Afterglow Red (Mulled Wine)

Afterglow Red (Mulled Wine)

Our second new wine is perfect for the chilly Holiday Season — “Afterglow Red”, which is a Mulled Wine! Some of you may have sampled mulled wine from us last year, which was made using our regular wines with a mulled wine spice packet in a crock pot, which filled the winery with irresistible smells. Our customers enjoyed that wine so much, that we made one right in the bottle for this year that you can just open, warm and pour! This is a limited release wine, however, so when it sells out, we won’t make any more of it until next year. I of course, get to taste the wines early, and I can tell you I already really love it, so just to let everyone know I have already reserved two bottle for myself! (winemaker’s luxury :o ) )

Here are the tasting notes for Afterglow Red: “Enjoy the inviting aromas and comforting taste of our warm, spiced mulled wine on a cold day. This rich, sweet wine has delightful notes of cinnamon, cloves, allspice and orange peel. Best warmed on a stove over medium-low heat until steaming, this wine should be served hot alongside dried fruits, nuts, spiced breads or cookies. Take it up a notch by dropping in a few raisins and almonds, or give it more pizzazz with a splash of your favorite Port, Amaretto, Schnapps, or liqueur.” Mmmmmm…..:)

Later on, we’ll tell you more about some more limited release wines coming out between winter and spring…Raspberry Merlot…Raspberry White Zinfandel…Port…Cabernet Sauvignon… so keep your eye out!

Last, the Holidays are approaching so quickly I can’t believe it! Remember us when you think about what to get people for gifts for Christmas or as your plan your holiday parties…. You did vote us the #1 Best Place to Shop for Gifts in Lake George! And You don’t have to come to the winery to buy out great gifts – they’re all available on our online store by clicking here!

I hope everyone has a great week and hopefully I will get more consistent with my posts now….

So, our summer officially ended on the day after Labor Day, Tuesday the 8th. Lake George’s season is typically defined as memorial day weekend to labor day weekend. It’s marked for us by our change of hours. We were open every day 10am – 10pm during the summer and it was not uncommon to close even later than that. My husband, Mike worked every single one of those days this summer, staying the entire 13+ hours for four days of the week – I would reprieve him on Thursdays and Sundays and on Wednesdays, we were lucky enough to have one of our trustworthy employees close for us so we could have family time with our daughter.

While many Lake George business are already fully closed and most left remaining will stay open through October, Adirondack Winery stays open year round. However, we’ve scaled back our hours – now we’re open Monday – Thursday 11am – 7pm and Fri-Say 11am – 9pm. I think we’ll scale back those hours more come January.

So, the summer recap – let’s see. We loved seeing so many faces from last year that we remembered, however, there was definitely a ton of new customers walking through our doors this season as well; which we know we can thank a lot of our loyal customers for. We had plenty of people tell us that friends or family told them to visit us, or they tried our wine at a party, or got it as a gift from someone.

I think all of our customers really appreciated that we managed to keep nearly all our wines in stock this summer, too! We had all 30+ of our wine varietals available to taste and buy nearly all season. Strawberry Riesling (Strawsling) ran out for just a short bit, as we were totally caught by surprise that it became our best selling wine this season – last year our Blueberry Shiraz was at the top of the list, so we expected that again, but strawberry emerged as the front runner. Our award winning Chardonnay was the favorite white and our award winning Pinot Noir was the favorite red. We are out (for now) of our Winter Concerto white chocolate port, which ended up the front running dessert wine this year!

It did rain a lot this year, however, in most cases, that meant that many customers forgo their outdoor activities in favor of a trip to the winery. It rarely got unbearably hot this summer, too, which was a plus.

I don’t know if all the talk about “staycations” and the Today’s Show’s Lake George spotlight possibly boosted the number of people visiting Lake George this year, but we certainly saw more people coming through our doors. Also, you could tell people were relieved to get away this summer and while still spending conservatively, definitely let their hair down a bit and took a reprieve from the recession. We only hope the economy is out of the woods by early next year.

However, keep in mind there’s still plenty reasons to visit Lake George in these next few months! This weekend is the Adirondack Nationals Car Show, Next Weekend is the Lake George Jazz Festival, the weekend after that is the fabulous Adirondack Balloon Festival with the yummy Taste of the North Country on Sunday. Then in October, the first weekend is the can’t miss Country’s largest garage sale in Warrensburg. Soon after is Columbus Day weekend, which many of us enjoy getting off from work, and then its the perfect time to go “leaf peeping”.

After that, it will be time to Christmas Shop! Don’t forget you all voted us as the best place for wine and best place to shop for gifts on LakeGeorge.com this year — so we’re really hoping to see our customers remember not only our wines and gift certificates for those people in your life, but also our great selection of unique wine-related gifts.

So what’s next for Adirondack Winery? A few things:

– We’re moving some of our less popular wines to a limited availability list and we’re adding a new fruity wine to our list – to be announced soon. We also plan to have special holiday wines.

– We’ve run out of room in our current Lake George location to continue operating how we have been, so we are seriously looking at an expansion to make wine off-premises, which should give us more room in our Lake George location to double the size of the tasting bar and hopefully have some room for private parties as well.

– We’ll start holding events monthly again in October, likely every month through May. Hopefully we’ll have time this year to do some outside wine tasting events as well.

–We’re offering custom holiday wine labels to customers this year — it’s a really neat Christmas / Hanukkah gift idea for your friends or family, as well as for clients, employees, or co-workers.

We’re trying hard to get liquor stores near our customers to carry our wines. While it’s not easy by any means, I think we’ll get there little by little.

We’re continuing to try and get our wines into local area restaurants. This season, we secured the Log Jam, Davidson’s Brewery, Mama Riso’s, Adirondack Pub & Brewery, East Cove, Tamarack Inn, Olde Mill Cafe, and Dunham’s Bay Resort. Lake George Steamboat Company and the Boardwalk Restaurant continue to offer our wines as well. However, our efforts were definitely challenged – we still hope to get our wines into many more restaurants. We welcome your help!

- Send us your thoughts!

Sincerely,

Sasha

Hi everyone! First, I would like to start with it’s been way to long since my last post! In fact, it’s been so long that I can’t even remember when it was, so I thought I would give a bit of a recap of life at the winery these days.

It’s Summer (sort of), so we are now open 7 days a week from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. While this makes for some really long days for us, we are thrilled customers are coming in during all those hours! As some of you may know, when you locate any business in a seasonal tourist town, if the people are here, you need to be open!

The good news is that our business is holding up pretty well – we have been battling both the economy and maybe even more important — the weather! We can’t do much about either, so with a little planning and some creativity, we have been able to survive pretty well.

We are always asked about new wines, and we do have plans for a couple of more this year. Unfortunatly, in order to accomodate these new wines, we will be allowing a few of our wines to sell out. But don’t fret – if one of your favorite wines sells out; it will be brought back at various times of the year, so you will still have the chance to purchase them. Keep checking back here for updates on our new wines, or even better, join our Inner Circle email newsletter list to hear about new and returning wines (and other good stuff) directly in your inbox! We are not ready yet to announce new wines, but the first one will be announced shortly.

Recently, we won some awards for our wines and our wine labels. We were very happy to see that our Chardonnay won Bronze at the International Finger Lakes Wine Competition and our Pinot Noir won Silver at the International Eastern Wine Competion. Of Course, we are proud to have won and hope there will be many more to come! Also our series of labels featuring Autumn scenes in Lake George (Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, and Viognier) won an Honorable Mention (equivalant to second place) at the Roses and Sonnenberg Label Competion.

Also, we’re happy to say that there are a number of area restaurants that are now offering our wines on their menus including: The Lake George Steamboat Company, The Boardwalk Restaurant, The Tamarack Inn, The Olde Mill Cafe, Mama Riso’s, Adirondack Brew Pub, and Davidson Bros. Brewery! Please be sure to support these great establishments and have a glass of wine while you’re there!

For those of you in the Danbury, CT area or in Dutchess County, Caffrey’s Wine and Spirits in Fishkill NY is the sole wine store we currently have; and we’ve already heard feedback that are customers are visiting the store to buy our wines and we hope its close enough for some CT residents to make the trip! If you’d like to see us in a wine store near you, the best way to make it happen is for our customers to request the wine store owner order our wines, so we definitely welcome your assistance in that category!

Well, that is about it for today and I really am sorry for the long break, I will try really hard to post at least 2 times a month during the summer and fall. Until next time have a great week!

– Mike
